Pro Carpet Cleaning Tips
While we always recommend scheduling regular carpet cleaning appointments with your trusted, local professional carpet cleaner, it’s also helpful to know how to maintain your carpets and deal with any spillages yourself.
And so how do you keep your carpets in great condition and tackle common spillages and stains?
Never use the common shop bought stain removers
While I won’t name the culprits, many of the shop bought products can cause permanent damage to your carpets. We always advise against using a generic supermarket stain remover, but if you insist on doing so then please do test the product on an inconspicuous area of carpet first.
Blot spillages – don’t scrub
Always blot a spillage using a clean cloth. Don’t be tempted to rub or scrub away as this can damage the carpet fibres and cause the stain to spread further.
Vacuum your carpets regularly
Regular vacuuming helps prevent grit from embedding into the fibres and causing damage. It also removes surface soiling that over time causes the dirty traffic areas that are present in entrance areas and around sofas. Simply vacuuming every few days can significantly prolong the life of your carpets.
Apply stain protection / stain guard
Asking your carpet cleaner to apply stain protection will help prevent stains from becoming permanent and ensure you get the best results possible from future carpet cleans.
Book an annual professional clean
The frequency at which you will require your carpets professionally cleaned can vary from 6-24 months.
If you’re living alone and are conscientious about removing your shoes before entering your home, you may get away with a clean every other year. If however, you have children and pets, they will likely benefit from a clean every 6-12 months.
Keeping on top of things will save money in the long term by preventing premature wear and tear and the need for replacement carpets.
